I love the look and functionality of the hat. It is great for blocking the sun and for keeping drizzle away on wet days. Super packable, as well.

Great hat for dog walks in heavy rain

Keeps my glasses from getting all wet, and provides excellent protection from the rain. I prefer this hat to the hood of my waterproof rain jacket.

rain hat keeps the rain out, but the interior material is a bit warm and stuffy and not breathable. thus I end up sweating a lot while trying to keep the rain off and end up wet anyways.

Good hat but better for hotter weather.

Really liked this product for the fall, but it has a thin felt lining inside that makes it not ideal for very hot hikes. Would definitely recommend for a sunny autumn or spring season.

Rain hat that really works

This rain hat is gore Tex and will breathe and also keep you dry. Heavy rain is no match for it! The Velcro to roll the brim is helpful, but honestly, I have never had it rolled up. I have to say one negative, is the sizing. I measured my head like I have with every single hat I have ever purchased and the size that I ordered was at least a whole size too small for me. Not sure what more I could have done to try to size better. Wish I would have sized up. Great product, but sizing is off.

Waterproof - Measure your head first!

I wear this hat hiking a lot, I can pack it in when I take it out, it holds shape pretty well. I was disappointed with the cheap chin strap rubber lock at first but it gets the job done. I preemptively bought the size L and it is too big sadly, but it still works out.

Will keep your brain warm and head dry

This is the second Seattle sombrero I’ve owned. It’s gore Tex so you’ll stay dry and has enough coverage to ensure your face is protected as well, unless you’re in a driving gale. It has a light weight fleece lining for warmth and an adjustable strap hidden in The interior of the hat. I wear a 7 1/4” ball cap and the large fits me well. My only real gripe is that it’s so warm it’s not really a practical summer hat should you want sun and rain protection.

Awesome hat that warps after drying

Love the hat overall. It has been in 3 rains here in TN and kept me dryer than expected (neck and ears) every time. I have noticed that after drying, the brim has become thick and isn't flat anymore. It's like there's a large bubble between the upper and lower material, creating a 1/2 inch gap. I can press it together like one of those bubbles on a pizza. This doesn't affect the function, but does change the look just a tad. Probably not noticable by most.

Just the Hat I Needed for the Rain

Nice and light weight, looks and fits great! Have not used in the rain yet, but the fabric feels like it would be water repellant. Happy with purchase.

Super light weight and comfortable. The black doesn't get hot in the sun. I wear it whenever I'm outside for extended periods of time. Keeps me much cooler than the "baseball" hat I normally wear.

Great for sun and rain

Super comfortable, and keeps the water off your face and neck. I still wore it on sunny days to protect myself from the heat and still did a great job. I wore it every single day while working in the backcountry and loved it. Packs down small to stuff it in my pack, and the chin string is solid enough to wear it around the helicopter's downwash and keep it secure on my head. Great Goretex hat, super useful and can even be worn under a helmet for climbing which is great!

3 Expert Recommendation Content This hat is absolutely legendary. I’ve used it for heavy rain, sun protection, and so much more. It’s durable, keeps it’s shape, and is very versatile. Also perfect for someone who wears glasses and works in rainy conditions! And personally, I think you look very cool wearing it ;)

Great rain day hat

Gortex coating keeps it waterproof and comfortable in cooler conditions. Definitely impressed with it so far packs down into bags and comes back out without looking ruined and keeps its shape. Definitely works as advertised saw one of these in a store a long time ago and couldn’t quite bring myself to get it but now that I have the hat with I would’ve committed earlier. Overall love this brand and the products they continue to develop.

One of my 10 must have pieces of gear

I have had at least one Seattle Sombrero since 2001. It is an absolute must for any cool weather rainy climate. I never go to Alaska without one, and in the bush there it seldom ever leaves my head. This is a classic gear item!

Great in the sunshine & the rain ...

I love this hat ... It's great on sunny days to keep the sun off my face and neck and even better in the rain... I lost my original one when it blew away when I was eating lunch on a recent hike ... When I got home I immediately ordered a new one... Only down side is the new "XL" hat is a lot bigger than my original "XL" hat... So I've asked my wife to do some sewing magic to make it smaller to fit my head ...

Great hat to keep your head dry in the driving rain

Expert Recommendation Content This is my go to hat in the spring in fall. Keeps my head dry and the sun off my face and neck. A little too warm for the summer.

Perfect for Coastal Alaska

I live and work in the coastal Chugach and Tongass National Forest, typically guiding extended expeditions while living under tarps. Spend a lot of time being wet but this hat is a real game changer for comfort and safety. It's like and umbrella for your head!!! I can hear and see around me without needing to put my hood up! Last hat lasted about 7 years before the amount of flop was unbearable. New replacement hat is sweet!

My fault

Love this hat for the sun and rain. Strong brim does not bend down in your face with the wind. Just got back from a few days of rain, hail, snow, wind and sun backpacking trip up near Shasta. Hat did great. The only thing it can’t stand up to is accidentally going into the dryer. Brim is ruined. :( I was looking forward to having this for my Philmont trek this summer, now I look like Gilligan out on the trail.

Awesome hat but size ran a little large.

Sizing was a little large, I will be ordering one size down but keeping the larger one for chilly mornings. The size of the brim is really nice for keeping water out of my collar.

Great hat for a rainy day!

This is my second Seattle Sombrero hat in the last 15 years. The first one lasted that long with moderate wear and was still going strong when I damaged it. I was hastily exiting my vehicle and caught the strap with my hand and seat belt causing the strap to tear the fabric away just a bit from under the brim. The hat still functions and the strap is till there, I just wanted another perfectly fine hat so I order another one. The damaged one stays in my car now.

30+ Years Old and Still Going Strong

I bought my "Seattle Sombrero" (the old name for this hat) around 1990. It's still my go-to hat for standing outside all day at rainy NICA mountain bike races, backpacking, and more. Good, basic design that does the job.

Love it for rainy dog walks

I wanted a hat like this on Vancouver Island (winters) to go walking in the woods and not have to wear my rain jacket hood. I wanted to be able to have my peripheral vision and best hearing, which a hood impairs. I absolutely love this hood for off-leash dog walks in the forest and any time I'm out for extended periods in the rain. It is definitely water proof, never leaked, warm and roomy enough when it's rainy and really cold I can wear a toque underneath for ear warmth. If it's windy you definitely need to tighten up the chin strap otherwise the large brim take flight. I followed the size guide which indicated I would be size XL which I thought was excessive given it's unisex, while still acknowledging I do have a large head and very thick hair. I was able to try them on locally and was a comfortable size Large, definitely not an XL, so the size guide is off. Excellent hat, would definitely recommend and hope this one holds up for years to come because I love it!

Great hat in all weather

I used this hat on our recent trip to Denali. We had a lot of rain, snow and wind. The hat kept me dry and no water ever dripped down into my collar. The fabric lining also provided a nice bit of warmth in chili weather. I would recommend this hat for both hot and cold environments. The ability to fold up the side flaps made this even more versatile and I would not be afraid to wear it for sun protection in our Arizona heat.

These OR Seattle Sombrero Hats are the updated version and the description was somewhat off. I have an original, first year Sombrero from the late 90's and it has the internal adjustable band that then Velcro's together for a great way to get the sizing exact for your noggin. The new version does not have this adjustment. The great quality of the hat remains the same.
